Stones are my go to Nymphing pattern. They are plentiful virtually everywhere Trout and smallies live and they seem to love a big protein snack. This pattern has quickly become a favorite all around producer of fish all year round.
I tie these with an upturned barbless point to keep the snag potentially down with the heavier fly.
Big water needs a heavier nymph and these are tied with .30 lead in #6 & #8 to get them down. If you want an even heavier nymph, I’ll add a pair of tungsten beads, just choose the heavyweight option.
I’ve added a the Brule River Variant for our friends in the Driftless Area, to the selection. These are tied as a heavy weight with a large body, but on a #10 long shank barbed hook.
I’ve recently added #12 an #14 hook sizes to the selections.
