Realistic Style Mayfly Nymphs
I love turning over rocks in the river to see what’s feeding the trout. I always turn up a pretty interesting selection of mayfly nymphs. I have been playing with these patterns for quite a while and they have never failed to produce- especially in the blue lines where the fish are really keyed in on that unmistakable profile.
Like the stones, I tie these with an upturned barbless point and seems to present in a more lifelike drift along the bottom. I often get the take at the end of the swing as the nymph rises in the column.
Mayflies have a lot of color variation in some shades of browns, so there’s several colors to choose from. These are tied on 2x long competition nymph hooks in #14, #12, and #10 to keep you ready to match what’s lurking in your favorite stream,
