Mops are one of those tragic success stories. Pretty uncomplicated tie, 100% synthetic and amazingly effective.
I’ve played around with these for a few years and have settled out on a couple truths from stream side trial and error. A standard mop presents best on a #14 short shank hook. Fireholes 316 fills that perfectly.
Cones get more head turns and beads, and copper more than other colors. Contrasting dubbing collar more than matching.
So here’s Jacobs Forks Mop Fly.
All colors catch, but I can drift a chartreuse over a head with nothing. Put on purple and it’s crushing it. 20 minutes later they dial off that, and so it goes.
