This is a pattern that goes way back for me. Over the years it’s morphed several times, but I’ve settled into this squirrel body for quite some time. The “flymph” has lots of definitions in fly tying circles and what constitutes it is always a debate. Is it a wet fly, an emerger, a spinner? Bottom line it when I get into the summer blue lines for wild fish, it’s my first choice. A little floatant, and it is a really buggy top water offering , but the hackle is not great for sustained floating, so it will become a subsurface wet and your drift becomes a swing.
Trout hit it when it lands or at the end of the swing. A couple of false casts and you do it again. Give this a try for those selective fish, especially early morning or in the evening.
All flies are tied to order. If you have any requested variations you would prefer, don’t hesitate to drop a line and I will be happy to tie to your specifications.
